Crispy Baked Chicken Wings

Homemade Crispy Baked Chicken Wings are a delicious and healthier alternative to fried wings, offering the perfect balance of crunch and flavor. These wings are seasoned with a blend of spices, then baked to golden perfection in the oven, resulting in a crispy exterior that rivals any fried wing. Perfect for game day, parties, or a satisfying dinner, these wings are easy to make and can be customized with your favorite sauces or dips. Enjoy the crispy texture and juicy, tender meat without the guilt of frying.

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs (about 1 kg) chicken wings, separated into drumettes and flats
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder (not baking soda)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (optional)

For the Sauce (optional):

  • 1/2 cup hot sauce (like Frank’s RedHot)
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 tablespoon honey (optional for sweetness)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place a wire rack on top. This will allow the wings to cook evenly and get crispy.

2. Prepare the Chicken Wings:

  • Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels. This step is crucial for getting crispy skin. The drier the wings, the crispier they’ll become.

3. Season the Wings:

  • In a large bowl, combine the baking powder, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.
  • Add the chicken wings to the bowl and toss them to coat evenly with the seasoning mixture. Make sure all the wings are well-coated.

4. Arrange the Wings on the Rack:

  • Place the seasoned chicken wings on the wire rack in a single layer. Make sure they’re not touching each other to ensure even cooking and crispiness.

5. Bake the Wings:

  • Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven. Bake the wings for 35-45 minutes, flipping them halfway through, until they are golden brown and crispy. The internal temperature should reach 165°F (74°C).

6. Prepare the Sauce (Optional):

  • While the wings are baking, prepare the sauce. In a small saucepan, combine the hot sauce, melted butter, and honey. Heat over low heat, stirring occasionally until well combined.

7. Toss the Wings in Sauce:

  • Once the wings are done baking, remove them from the oven. If you’re using the sauce, transfer the wings to a large bowl and pour the sauce over them. Toss the wings until they are evenly coated.

8. Serve:

  • Serve the wings hot with your favorite dipping sauces, like ranch or blue cheese, and celery sticks on the side.

9. Enjoy:

  • Enjoy your crispy, flavorful chicken wings! This recipe is perfect for game day, a casual dinner, or any time you’re craving some delicious wings!
